More about Olympic Lifting

Olympic lifting, also known as Olympic-style weightlifting, is a sport and training method that focuses on two primary lifts: the snatch, and the clean and jerk. Both movements require a combination of strength, speed, power, and coordination. The snatch involves lifting the barbell from the ground to overhead in one smooth motion, while the clean and jerk consists of two phases—first lifting the barbell to the shoulders (the clean), followed by driving it overhead (the jerk). These lifts are practiced in competitive weightlifting and are performed with precision, using optimal technique to move maximal weights efficiently.

Olympic lifting is not only a competitive discipline but also a popular component of athletic training programs across various sports. Its benefits include improved explosive power, better mobility, and enhanced neuromuscular coordination. Because the lifts engage multiple muscle groups and demand excellent technique, they help develop overall body strength and stability. Beyond physical gains, the complexity of the movements promotes mental focus, as athletes need to time their movements precisely and stay mindful of posture and positioning. This form of lifting is complimentary to CrossFit, where it is valued for building strength and conditioning in a dynamic way.
